We have all grown and learned so much this past year about ourselves, on and off the mat.  Each and every one of my students is so unique and special.  Every week we meet to share the journey of yoga together, to enhance our lives and be better people.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is a great time of year to remember who you are what you want in this life.  Sometimes life gets so busy you get lost on the path of being your true authentic self.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The values you have been thinking of make up part of the core of who you are. If you are being true to your values, these core beliefs will drive your behavior.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It feels good to behave in ways that are consistent with your values. For example, if honesty is something you value, this could be reflected in your life by being truthful. If you value your family, perhaps your life reflects this in the time you spend with family members.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Think about how your values can be a part of your day-to-day life.  Think about this year if nothing was to hold you back what would you do?  What makes you happy?  What do you like to do?  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With those few questions sit quietly and reflect, then see yourself with no barriers becoming that person.    I wish all the students of One Love One Heart a Merry Christmas and Happiest upcoming New Year. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just be yourself, know yourself, and with one love and one heart lets go down this road together, supporting and encouraging each other along the way. margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 170px; height: 142px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p4M1MH-Gfvg/TWumm6-o7qI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/qe6V83g3z3s/s320/Plank.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578735751025716898" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was thinking monthly about talking about a different pose each month&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This Month is the plank pose, it is works the abdominal muscles amazingly. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Practing plank does more for your abdominal muscles than crunches and I feel is a safer method to strengthen the abdominal area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;transversus abdominis engage to produce a healthy pose, rectus abdominus strengthen the pose, practicing plank will produce a strong healthy balanced core.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ab crunches work the abdominal wall, but the benefits of plank is a total body exercise that engages your core muscles (abs &amp; lower back), this can enhance your posture and firm muscles in the shoulder area creating stability.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Desk jockeys, people who sit a lot this is a great yoga pose to add to your practice,&lt;br /&gt;plank helps protect the back from problems that can occur from sitting at a desk all day. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What is great about plank pose is it strengthens the abs and core and can improve your posture, while crunches can exacerbate lower back issues if done improperly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Plank pose is a great way to flatten the abdominals and strengthen the back and core muscles.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Benefits of Plank in Yoga&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;•Strengthens the arms, wrists, and spine &lt;br /&gt;•Tones the abdomen&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;May your plank be solid and firm and balanced with a nice straight spine and torso.&lt;br /&gt;Hug in and feel your midline and breathe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Namaste&lt;br /&gt;Cathy &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Proper directions to plank pose.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bring the torso forward until the shoulders are over the wrists and the whole body is in one straight line.Feel the muscles hugging in and supporting your joints, spine and upper body.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is very similar to the position you would take if you were about to do a push up. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Press the forearms and hands firmly down, do not let your chest sink, press back through the heels. Red lentils, for example, cook quickly and add lovely color and flavor to this Moroccan-inspired dish. Warm spices (including one that is thought to be a cancer-fighter), healthful olive oil, and vegetables all add their benefits. Time to take the Marrakesh Express with this great Red Lentil Soup. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;INGREDIENTS &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4 ribs celery, chopped&lt;br /&gt;1/2 onion, chopped&lt;br /&gt;2 tablespoons light olive oil&lt;br /&gt;1/2 teaspoon ginger&lt;br /&gt;1/2 teaspoon cinnamon&lt;br /&gt;1/2 teaspoon turmeric&lt;br /&gt;6 cups good-quality vegetable broth&lt;br /&gt;4 plum tomatoes, diced&lt;br /&gt;1 cup red lentils&lt;br /&gt;1 15-ounce can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed&lt;br /&gt;1 bunch cilantro, chopped&lt;br /&gt;2 tablespoons lemon juice&lt;br /&gt;Salt to taste &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. In a large soup pot, saute the onion and celery in the oil until tender. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Add ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, vegetable broth, tomatoes, lentils, and garbanzo beans. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Now researchers are doing scientific research that proves just how great meditation is.  Not that we needed proof, we can see the benefits of meditation in our lives with reduced stress, better sleep, lower blood pressure and lot more.  But since this study made the news, I thought I'd share with you.  Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital have found that meditation changes gray matter in the brain.  Those who meditate regularly have increased thickness in a region called the insula, which is key to integrating thoughts and emotions.  This helps explain biologically just how meditation relieves stress.  They also found that people who have practiced meditation for years had increased thickening in areas of the brain affecting heart rate and breathing.  As we age, the brain tends to thin in areas that sustain attention and regulate memory.  Yet those same areas were thickened in the brains of meditators!  Science has already shown that the rain can change by learning another language or by playing a musical instrument. Being mindful of Kinesiology and the mechanics of the body, with the breath. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This workshop was about getting out of pain and how therapuetic Yoga is just in its infancy, Susi has developed a great series of tecniques and worskhops and I intend to join her in September of this year to experience more of her great teachings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was blown away in the 2 days I spent learning the art of going inside and slowing down and being mindful of even how my femur bone has a range of motion and going to the edge can cause you pain down the road.  Knowing when a stretch is not a good stretch you can still go to far and be the creator of your own pain in your body.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had to learn pain from discomfort and how you listen for the whisper, the warning that comes before the discomfort.    How not going to the edge is a focus you need to respect with your body. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The use of the black strips to release lumbar and thoracic spine, the ball techniques, and the range of motion sequences to really get to you to become aware of how your body operates.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have used the techniques in the classes all this week and the response has been amazing, can we do more etc. It is fun to teach and amazing to watch the students get it the concept too.   So am thrilled how receptive the class was and I was so  glad to share with my students what I learned at that workshop.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the near future a Therapuetic class will be offered so look on the schedule for updates.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If your interested in Susi Aldous Hately just vist her site. Give up dairy, coffee, no alcohol, eat organic meat once a week, pay attention to what I actually was putting in my body,and on my body right down to the shampoo and conditioner?  Even noting the cleaning products that I was using. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As I took the week prior to read the book and I made lists of what I needed to buy and set out to do that.  Supplements, herbal teas, aloe vera juice, flaxseed oil etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All along still wondering how hard is this going to be and what am I going to feel like?  Can I really do this?  Sure I can. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The night before the detox I opted to have a  have a steak and glass of wine. &lt;br /&gt;(for some bizarre reason it felt like it would be my last)&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;I then started the first day of detox Feb 8th, honestly I thought I would not get through the first day, I just kept telling myself it is only four weeks it is not forever.  Give this a chance and see how you feel.  The next 7 days I had some wicked headaches, some like I have never felt before.  I was never really hungry but I was craving things I had never thought about in a long time.  Yoga blocks looked like giant brownies......just kidding.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I found if you kept eating every 3 hours or so you were better, and let me tell you going out forget it, there is really nothing available for you unless you go to a grocery store and get fruit or have almonds on you which I did after the first week.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No restaurants around here that offer organic food and no salt, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some days I would think about things like meat? chocolate? A Guinness? I was wondering why I was having the thoughts, more than ever, but I realised that emotions and food are connected. Also that you always want what you do not have I think that was part of it too.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you think about it we eat to celebrate,we eat when we are hungry and we eat when we are sad too.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The second week it got easier, but meal planning was very time consuming and you had to become creative, nothing processed everything from scratch.   Soups and salads brown rice, brown basamati rice, fruit and smoothies, flax seed etc.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have spent a lot of time in the kitchen prepping etc, I found on Sundays it was a good day to make a soup, then cabbage rolls, salad dressing etc. to have on hand when you were strapped for time. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My mind was always thinking on how to be  creative and I made brown basamati rice cabbage rolls and put in walnuts and cranberries and small bits of carrots.  Just made it up in my head what might taste good.  They were great. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I forgot to mention, I asked my husband to join me on the detox journey, and he obliged, I would have to say he took it harder than me and his heachaches were worse and he was very tired the first two weeks he slept alot. He was always laying down as soon as he got home from work. He has been a trooper through all of this and it was a great support for me.  It would be great if you have someone to go through this with and not be alone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Week 3 the compliments were flying at me left right and centre, you look really good, your eyes are clearer, you have more energy and your skin looks so healthy, just overall really good feedback.  Myself, I felt better, I really did I could feel more energy and a clearer mind too.  You know the best part is the not bloated feeling,I never feel bloated ever. I like that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now I am considering keeping some of the plan in action once the 4 weeks is up. Like eliminating the dairy and for sure meat will be twice to 3 times a week only.  I have learned to create and make some good veggie dishes and rice dishes.  Tons of great soups too.  You really are what you eat, if you eat crap you feel like crap but if you eat healthy you feel healthy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Week 4 the start is here and seven days to go I am feeling I am on the backstetch heading for home, it is exciting but I wonder why, what is that about, it about staying true to the plan or just knowing that I have done what I set out to do?  I wonder if I will go back to my old ways and I feel fear of that but I talk myself into how much better I feel and that sets me straight.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Would I do this again, yes for sure, I am alreay planning for mid November to December. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you have any questions etc. or are considering trying this Detox I highly recommend it.  What does my husband say?  He said it was really hard but he feel great too, he found the first two weeks really tough.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I asked him are you going to join me again in Novemeber he said sure why not :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;**********************************************************************************&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why you need to spring clean your body&lt;br /&gt;Your body is naturally equipped with a self-cleaning process. But too much sugar, caffeine, processed foods, stress, and too little exercise can slow the body's natural detox function to a slow pace. And then your body can't clean itself when it is put up against the increasing number of harmful and toxic substances in the environment. Toxins come in many forms: pesticides in produce, formaldehyde in carpets and cosmetics, PCBs from plastic containers, dioxins from bleached paper products, and more. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your body will process and eliminate some of the hordes of chemicals that enter, but overflow gets stored in the liver, lungs, kidneys, fat cells, intestines, blood stream, and skin—which can result in chronic illnesses down the road. When you undergo a detox, you get these toxins out of your system. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How do you know if you need a detox?&lt;br /&gt;You know you're suffering from toxic overload if you are experiencing fatigue, memory decline, difficulty focusing, allergies and infections, irritability, anxiety and depression, difficulty with weight gain and weight loss, muscle and joint pain or weakness, skin rashes and outbreaks, recurrent yeast and fungal infections, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and indigestion. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Myself, after trying a detox, I recommend it, and reports have shown that when a person detoxs they have an improvment in their sypmtoms they had prior to the detox. At first, you may feel a little fuzzy because of the toxins being released and get some headaches. However, when you stick with it, you will begin to feel more alert, energized, and full of vitality.  So I have heard lately the Yoga classes are little more vigorous :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Come to think of it my Yoga practice is even better, there is more energy in my body and I feel stronger and healthier too. I crave the Yoga more now than ever.&lt;br /&gt;The feel good endorphins are plenty and I welcome the increased stamina. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Monday March 8th I woke up refreshed and I reached for the hot water and lemon drink I have been consuming for the last month.  I never thought about having a coffee that was strange.
